Privacy Policy
Summit Federal Credit Union (SFCU) is committed to protecting the privacy of
each member's financial records, consistent with state and federal laws, as
well as other users of the website. SFCU will take prudent and reasonable
measures to safeguard the accuracy and privacy of all member information,
including information used while conducting business via the Internet. To that
end, we have adopted the following privacy policy for our website:
1) WEB-24 website pages: Personal
identifying information is collected when a member attempts to access our
WEB-24 member-only section of our website. This information enables SFCU to
regulate entry to information on your personal account and to measure member
usage. Any personal identifying information gathered during log-on attempts is
not sold to third parties.
2) Email: Personal information
contained in email sent by members and non-members may be used by the credit
union's staff to answer questions or to improve the level of service SFCU
provides. Please be advised that email may not be secure against
interception by unauthorized individuals. Therefore, if you wish to communicate
sensitive or personal information, you may want to send it by postal
mail.
3) Online Applications: All
personal information submitted using one of SFCU's online applications is done
so in a secure environment. This information is encrypted while being
transmitted and is not seen by anyone other than authorized SFCU personnel. Any
personal information submitted on these forms is completely confidential and is
not sold to third parties.
To ensure that members can rely upon the quality of products and services we
make available, SFCU stands behind the following:
-
Summit Federal Credit Union will collect only the personal information
necessary to conduct its business. SFCU will collect only that
personal information necessary to provide competitive financial products and
services and no more.
-
Summit Federal Credit Union will protect the personal information of its
members. SFCU will maintain strong security controls to ensure that
member information in our files and computers is protected. Where appropriate,
we will use security-coding techniques to protect against unauthorized access
to personal records, ensure accuracy and integrity of communications and
transactions, and protect member confidentiality.
-
Summit Federal Credit Union members will always have access to their
information to ensure its accuracy. SFCU members will always have the
opportunity to review their information and make necessary changes to ensure
that our records are complete and accurate.
-
Summit Federal Credit Union will only share information when necessary to
administer products and services we provide or when required to do so by the
government. We do not share any personal information about you or our former
credit union members with third parties except as permitted or required by law
and as necessary for business purposes. For example, we may share information
to comply with U.S. tax laws and court orders or with consumer reporting
agencies.
-
Summit Federal Credit Union will partner only with businesses that follow
strict confidentiality requirements and offer products designed to enhance the
economic well being of its members. The businesses we select will be required
to follow strict confidentiality requirements. Under no circumstances will we
authorize these firms to charge your account without your express consent, and
we will not sell member information to telemarketing firms.
Please be aware that third parties can obtain your personal information from
outside sources. This information could be used for solicitation purposes. For
example, when you obtain a mortgage or equity loan, by law the transaction is
recorded in the public land records of the jurisdiction where the property is
located. This information, including the lender’s name, becomes public record
and is available to anyone who visits the Record Clerk’s office.
4) Children's Privacy: The online financial
services offered through SFCU's web are not designed for or directed toward
minors under the age of 18. SFCU does not knowingly solicit or collect data
from minors and does not knowingly market to minors online without express
parental consent or notification. If we receive online information from a
member that we know to be a minor, SFCU will only use the information to
respond directly to the minor's request.
SFCU recognizes that protecting minors' identities and online privacy is
important and that responsibility rests with SFCU and with parents. If any
parent member believes their minor child has provided personal identifiable
information, they must contact the credit union so that steps can be taken to
review and delete such information.
5) Definitions:
Main Host: the computer that contains the
CU Interface
system's account processing software, the internal e-mail server, and the
member database.
Mail Host: the computer that contains SFCU's system LAN network
and external e-mail server.
Firewall: the software or hardware that provides security by
isolating SFCU's computer from the world wide web (www). The firewall also
prevents outsiders (hackers) from connecting to SFCU's internal computer
network.
Encryption: to encode a file to prevent anyone except the
intended recipient from accessing the contents. The data is encoded using a
"private key" resident on a web server. Before transmission, a "public key" is
sent to the receiver that allows the data to be decoded once it reaches the
receiver's computer. Encryption comes in various grades, the strongest
available being 128-bit strong.
Secure Socket Layering (SSL): a secure, private, end-to-end
connection between two computer systems over the world wide web.
